(1988 – 2018)
The Anuj Chopra Foundation has been established in memory of Anuj Chopra, a much loved and missed son, brother, uncle and friend.
Anuj was born as the youngest of three children to his parents in March of 1988. Right from his early years he was always a cheeky, bright, energetic and loving boy.
One of his first loves was cricket. He had a natural talent and flare for the game, playing for Ilford Cricket Club and Essex County Cricket team from Under 9’s to Under 16’s as well as the MCC, under the care and guidance of Joe Hussain (Nasser Hussain’s father).
Anuj attended Ilford County High School, where he had a special relationship with his headmaster owing to his cricketing talents and led his school team to win tournaments and regional competitions.
He excelled in this field, making life long friendships along the way. Cricket was one of Anuj’s big passions in life.
After finishing further education, Anuj joined his older brother’s business, at Urban Interiors, London. He was a people’s person and was much loved by his clients.
Even though Anuj could not speak in Hindi or Punjabi fluently, he developed a taste for Hindi/Punjabi music and was surprisingly talented! You could always hear him singing/humming, and more often than not had to tell him to be quiet!
Starting off with karaoke at home with the family, to singing at family weddings/parties and eventually singing with some of his much loved idols such as Master Saleem, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Mika Singh, Anuj was a natural entertainer.
Much loved by all the aunties, Anuj knew how to charm, and was the life and soul of any event.
Family was the most important for Anuj. His three nephews were his pride. He loved spending time with them and singing to them. People who knew him well, will tell you that Anuj was very wise for his age. He had inner peace and wisdom and would regularly share his philosophical thoughts and feelings with those around him.
Anuj suddenly passed away at the young age of 30 with sepsis. He is remembered with love and fondness by all who knew him. Through this foundation, Anuj will be celebrated through all the things that he used to enjoy.
